"salt the fries"
I'm dissapointed in myself. In the past week I"ve bought 6 CD's, not a single one has had a parental advisory sticker. I"m losing my touch I tell ya...losing it. Somtimes I love having this job thing, it allows me certain liberties, such as CDs. I got three CDs for X-mas, and two since then, up until the 6 this week. In no particular order, jsut because I want too, my recent CDs:
Deftones-Deftones (5/10): Nothign ground breaking, generic sounding. It's no White Pony or Around the Fur.
Hoobastank-The Reason (8/20): Great pussy rock band. About equal with thier first CD, although a little more polished. Couple of good singles.
Rage Against the Machine-Live at Olympic Auditorium (12/10): What can you say bad about this kick ass CD? Not much. Cover all thier hits, and the changes they make to some (Killing in the Name Of, etc) make you wonder why they weren't written that way. Everyone who's any kind of rock band needs this CD, if not for anything less then to have the final concert album of one of the most influenitial bands of the '90s.
Story of the Year- P4ge Avenue (8/10): THis is a really good breakout band. Thier two singles are pretty indicitie of the entire CD; gritty, raw, and something that works. Think of them as a cross between Rage and Hooba, without the political stuff.
lostprophets-Star Something (9/10)- Love this CD as well. Can put it in the CD palyer, with random, and not be dissapointed with what it plays. A lot more polished then The Fake Sound of Progress, but in this case, that's a good thing. They still have a new sound thats gets you to tappin your toes and banging your hands to the beat, get both of thier CD's.
Modest Mouse-Good News for People who Like Bad News (6/10): NOt really a bad CD, but not really a good CD either. They probably will die from the scene fairly quickly after thier two singles get played out, Good Charlotte style (whos sucks...hard ass looking bad, pussy ass sound). Outside of thier two singles, the rest of the CD is only good, if not quirky.
The Killers-Hot Fuss (8/10): Similar to Story of the Year, a really good sounding breakout band. AS I've said, love the electro in it. Another one where a random play produces a good song everytime, a definite buy.
Muse-Absolution (?/10): HAven't listen to the whole thing, but i'ts not bad. Hopefully thier current tour with The Cure will rub off on them and give them a sound that is lasting, much like the cure. As it is now, not epic, nothing. I did notice that the songs did sound kinda montonus, similar drum beats and similar keyboard rhythms and sounds...
The Mars Volta- De-loused in the Comatorium (9/10): Really glad I found this band, a really good sound they have. A sound all of thier own. A mixture of grand guitar solos, strange ambient passages, and a distinctive voice form the lead singer all combine to make a CD that makes you want to take the long way to the store just to hear more of the CD. NOt a good suffle play CD, as all the soungs blend into each other, but suffle still works.
Coheed and Cambria-In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3 (?/10): Haven't even listened to even one complete song yet....so no review.
Franz Ferdinand-Franz Ferdinand (7/10): Not a bad CD, few good singles, but I don't really see them breaking out much more with this CD then they already have. The CD has gotten rave reviews, but I"m just not really getting it. Maybe if I listen to it more closely, that may work.....
I'm also spending all my money, even though I said I won't...but fuck it. Bought me a camera today, a Canon PowerShot A75. It comes highly recommened for what I need, a camera that has some adjustable features so I can get a little crative with my pics, take up close photos, and high-res landscapes, etc. Hope that it works out for me. I'm also going to be buying a new cell phone next weekend. This thing is TINY. Went into the T-Mobile store just wanting to look, nearly walked out with a phone. I don't need some big, fancy phone with a camera, movie, and al that fun stuff, I jsut need somethign I can make and get calls, have a little fun with playing games and the like. Saw this thing (barley, it's <4" tall, <2" wide, <1" thick), loved the look, it was easy to use, and had some really nice features. So, I"ll be buying it to replace my phone that dies 5 mins after you unplug it from the wall.
